Flat Stanley: # 3 Ahoy There!

Check our cute little pirate that we've had visiting with us this past week. Isn't he adorable!

He watched whilst we had tennis lessons this week.

Apart from tennis we pretty much stayed at home this week and as always rode the bikes alot.

He even got to spend some time with us working in our school room and on some neat solar car kits that B got for his birthday.

He was a very lucky Pirate Stanley as he got to spend an entire morning with K and I at her kindy. It was my rsoter day so he came along. He played out in the playground and indoors and enjoyed morning tea......watermelon yum!

He's neatly tucked back inside his envelope and his off again for his next adventure.

Flat Stanley: A Vist From Alaska

Wow, Stanley's all the way from Alaska. I'm guessing they are probably glad they are on this side of the world at the moment as I'm pretty sure things would be very chilly in their neck of the woods right now. Meanwhile we have been having glorious spring weather.


We had an excursion to our Smart Tip and the Stanley's got to join us on that. This may have been their very first bus ride, how exciting for them. :)


They also enjoyed the presentation and short video's the children watched about the smart tip, waste, recycling and how it all works together.



We've started a new program called Switched On Kids which is full of lots of movement, fun and games. The Stanley's really enjoyed participating in this.



They also got to play a few games around home with B7 and K5, it was a Mr Potato game this day.



I lost a couple of Stanley's photo's when my computer died last week. Not sure if I will get them back or not either :(

These Stanley's are now well on their way back to the US and we are checking our letter box daily for new arrivals.

Flat Stanley: Second Mailing and Update

We've enjoyed having our very first Flat Stanley here with us. I must admit it has taken us a little getting used to and we did forget to take him along to things or we took him and then forgo tto get him out of the bag. Hopefully we'll be a better at all of this when our next one arrives.

I also ended up a tad off colour for a few days so we missed some photo opportunities then. However we still managed to get Stanley to participate in quite a bit.

He is now on his way and we are looking forward to our next Stanley arriving.

Flat Stanley: First Arrival ~ New York

Our very first Flat Stanley arrived this afternoon in the mail. YAY! B7 was so eager to get it open but since K5 was at kindy he had to wait, thankfully we were heading out the door to pick her up anyway.

We love the photo of him on his Stanley Doll. I think that now B7 and K5 wished that they had done that. (I suggested it to them when we were making ours but they chose not to) J. included a nice letter about himself and his family (oops we didn't do that with our Stanley's) and some cool stickers, thanks so much for those J.

We've got a busy weekend ahead of us so your Flat Stanley will be out and about quite a bit.

Flat Stanley: First Mailing ~ Wyoming

It's time to bid our Flat Stanley's farewell (well actually we are kinda running late on this project, sorry guys) as they leave on their journey to places far and wide. The first port of call is Wyoming in the United States. Now all we have is an address and as in most cases the state is abbreviated and I certainly don't know each and every state abbreviation for the US. So I printed off this list from the United States Postal Service, that will be used with each one of our Stanley visits.

We grabbed our World Map from the wall and first spent some time talking about how Australia only has such a small number of states compared that to of that America. Then we set about the task (well actually I left it in B7's very capable hands) of finding the state of Wyoming. Too be honest I didn't think he would find it, after all a world map with all of that writing on it is quite overwhelming. So whilst he was doing that I went off to print out a map of the US. Only to come back and see him pointing right to the State of Wyoming!

We coloured the state on our Black Line Map that I printed from World Atlas. We will continue to do that with each Stanley we send off (not as they arrive/or where they have come from). If we keep to that routine we will still cover every place/state/country that is participating.

I also printed a Black Line World Map from the same site and although you can't see it, we coloured Wyoming on there. I am thinking I may even include another Black Line World Map and have the kids draw lines from where we are to each posting as they send the Flat Stanleys on their way. I think that may show all the travelling they are doing in a great visual way as well as having each state coloured. I'll include a photo next time so you can see what I mean.

We have an Oregon Globe so we were able to hear some stats like how long it takes to fly from Australia to the US and other tid bits like that.



I'm just trying to decide how much info we want to keep and include with this project. I'm curious as to what everyone else is doing that is participating in it. I guess I will wait and see how our Stanley's go with their first visit and what information we get back from the host family. We may look at doing a notebooking page of sorts that includes some stats about the state and a few tid bits of info but I'm not sure on that as yet or even if the kids will be interested. Just tracking their Stanley's and seeing what they get up to may be more than enough.

We packed up our little gifts that we decided to put in with our Stanley's and headed down to the Post Office.

Flat Stanley: The Preparation

We've been busy preparing our Flat Stanley's for the project we are participating in. We decided, since I think we are the only Aussies taking part (well I think but not 100% sure) that we would give our Flat Stanley's a little Aussie flag each to hold and show off on their travels.

We finally found a book store that had the book in stock. We decided on a bumper collection, 3 books in 1. Thanks Borders!

We thought we should give our own Flat Stanleys a little time with us before they headed on their way.

They got to witness B7 playing soccer (his last game of the season).

And they enjoyed a quiet Father's Day lunch with family.

We also put together a few bits and pieces that we are sending out with our Flat Stanley's.

We'll be up bright and early and at the Post Office on opening so we can bid our Flat Stanley's farewell. And will be watching our letter box eagerly awaiting our first arrival due sometime this week.

Flat Stanley Fun

We're particpating in the Flat Stanley Project that Gabrielle from Work of Childhood is organising. I'm so excited and I haven't even told the kids yet. We actually have never read the book so I'm off to find us a copy of it.
