Finally our much talked about new school room is happening.
I'm posting about it over at our family blog if you'd like to follow the progress.

Oh man! I am so excited for you and jealous! I shouldn't be, I already have a designated school room, but I'm working with what's there and want to change some things. However, we might move next year so I don't want to change things if we're not staying and looking forward to a different room if we move. If we stay, I'm looking forward to knowing that too so I can just make the changes already!
I can't WAIT to see the finished project!
Okay, library thing.
That's an interesting idea, cataloging the manipulatives. I have a written list of what's in my school closet so I really think that is valuable.
I still like it, I like it more every day. I haven't made progress on my labeling due to my injury the past week.
You CAN catalog things that are not books. Anything that has an ISBN number comes up with all the Amazon information that goes with it. Most manipulatives would not have an ISBN number. However, I added books that my Mom created to our list as if they were real books, it lets you "create" anything you want.
So, I think you could easily do that. Put in the manipulatives, title them what they are, no "author" then you would have to put the appropriate things in the tags. For example, "manipulative," "sensorial," etc., Also it lets you create categories and I haven't even tried those.
I learn new computer programs by using them, clicking on things, seeing what I can change and what I mess up, I don't even know if it has a "manual" that would explain all this. I'm going to go try it right now!
I can't see it being finished this side of christmas, The beauty of having a husband that has his own business is that you have all of htose great 'building' contacts but the downside is, you have to wait for them to come when they have spare time and who has much of that these days. I've been waiting for the wall to be knocked out for at least 6 months, but I am not complaining, just excited that things have started.
Thanks for your thoughts on Library Thing. I vowed not to move a thing into the new room unless it has a home and/or it has been catalogued in some way. I just really want to have everything in one place, books, educational toys, games, manipulatives etc. Especially when we are studying a particular unit. If I tag them correctly I should be easily able to find what I already have on hand.
I think I will have to go and just have a play around for myself. :)
