The Craft Club: Child Initiated Papercraft

I know I should cease being amazed at the things the kids draw, make and create completely on their own, but I am still always amazed, I just can't help it.

I have no idea what the impetus was for these at all, but B spent an entire afternoon working on these two creations.

His Ferris Wheel, utilises skewers for the frame and it really does turn. He has even included a ticket booth.

The whole structure is only about 7 cms high so it would have certainly been fiddly to put together. He has planned the colour scheme and each seating area is identical.

Again, in the same afternoon, this waterfall complete with flowing water, fish and lilypads. He thought, after the fact, that he should've/could've made it slightly larger so he could fit a hippo bobbing up out of the water. I think it looks great regardless.

There's that huge part of me that wonders why he often can't/won't produce things when requested as part of our studies and I find that frustrating, and then he goes on to produce things like this, completely of his own accord. These are the times that always ground me and remind me that all is good, all is well. We are on the right path and he is excelling with his life, how he wants it to be.

This is great! And I love the very end of your post... we are helping our children realize their individual dreams and potential, aren't we?

Very, very impressive! He's got a good design sense and fine motor skills at the same time!

I think it's because they don't want to, but if they're inspired they can do a lot.

That's exactly Ticia, when inspired is when they show their true selves :-)

I love it! My 9 year old is the same way. I'm amazed at the stuff he can put together out of cardstock and tape, LOL!
