Sports Day

Yay! We participated in our very first Sports Day today. One of our nearby, long term home schooling groups has been organising and running a sports day for years. This year we went along with a group of our home school friends.

What a fabulous day. There were grins from ear to ear from both B7 and K4, they participated in absolutely everything and had a blast. I didn't count but at guess I would say there was about 50 children there, big enough to make it a great day, but not too big to take away the fun.

I only have one poor lonely photo to share though, my camera was full and I forgot :( I did borrow camera's though and everyone took photo's so as soon as I get copies I will share.

Book Club - Week 1, Term 2

Through LHEN we have organsied a children's book club at Logan Library, we had the first meet up today. It was always going to be a little unknown as to how many would show up and what the age mix would be.

The librarian (Jenny) used today as a 'getting to know you' day. The children were asked to brainstorm lists of books that they enjoyed. They could inlcude, favourite authors, series, themes, anything really that they liked to read about. As you can imagine the list was long, very long!

From that list a theme for the month was chosen - ANIMALS - so B7 and K4 now need to choose a book that relates in some way to animals. We will take the books they have read along with us to the next club meet up in a month's time for discussion and activities revolving around the ANIMAL theme.
From there it was library treasure hunt time. The children were broken into groups and were given a set of clues that had them hunting and meandering through the children's section of the library. This was fun, for both the big kids and the little and it gave all of us an opportunity to really see where everything is in the library.

We are looking forward to future book clubs, wonder what they'll have in store for us next time.

Art Classes - Week 2, Term 2 - Slab Cylinders

This week B7 had to revisit the use of slab work with clay and create a slab cylinder. Last term he made a slab trinket box so he had some prior knowledge.

After deciding to embellish his cylinder with a snake he realised that it kind of looked like a tree trunk, so that's what he transformed it into. We can't wait to see this one fired and painted up, I think it is his best piece yet.

The finished pieces waiting to be fired. B7's is going to make a great paint brush holder, ready for our new painting area that I have in mind. Thankfully he has agreed, he initially was going to use it to hold his pencils but we now feel that it may be a little deep for pencils so paint brushes it is.
